13-year-old former streetchild wins International Children’s Peace Prize

In recognition for his work for Filipino street children, 13-year-old Kesz Valdez was awarded the International Children’s Peace Prize today at the Hall of Knights in The Hague, The Netherlands. Former Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu handed him the award.

Kesz is the first southeast Asian who won the International Children’s Peace Prize. He won over Amina of Ghana and Anwara of India’s West Bengal Region.

The International Children’s Peace Prize is hailed to be the Nobel Peace Prize dedicated to children’s rights all over the world. It was launched in 2005 during the Nobel Peace Laureates’ Summit. Along with the trophy and worldwide recognition, a project close to Kesz’s heart will also be the beneficiary of 100, 000 euros from Kids Rights, the organizer of the International Children’s Peace Prize.
