My colleague wanted to buy a box of chocolates from a Polish store but couldn’t get the vendor’s attention. If her voice was too soft or her approach not good enough for the vendor to recognise, I don’t remember anymore. But when I said “Dzien dobry!” coupled with my biggest smile, the vendor quipped “Dzien dobry!” back in her most friendly tone and welcoming smile. Our business in the store was done in a matter of minutes. I closed the conversation with “Dziekuje”.

In recognition for his work for Filipino street children, 13-year-old Kesz Valdez was awarded the International Children’s Peace Prize today at the Hall of Knights in The Hague, The Netherlands. Former Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu handed him the award. Kesz is the first southeast Asian who won the International Children’s Peace Prize.

15-year-old Filipino teener Kyle Baleva is walking for the fourth time to help orphaned Filipino children back home. He is traversing the cities of Elst, Wijchen, Groesbeek and Cuijk in the western part of the Netherlands through the Four-Day Nijmegen Marches on this exceptionally rainy week in the country. His goal: to raise much needed funds for the Children’s Rehabilitation Center’s (CRC) “A Hand for an Orphan” program.
